SNAPSHOT- Scandanavian Style
SNAP SHOT: Top Picks for Scandinavian
Scandinavian Style first became popular in the 1950s but has stayed relevant to current design trends due to the clean simple lines and effortless functionality. Top perk for being a designer is getting to play with different styles. As an exercise I like putting together a snapshot solving the math of “tone and color “with real items from my favorite shops.
But without the size and shape for a specific space this exercise is about providing different levels of change, and can work with what clients realistically pay as if they were shopping today.
Small Impact-Accessories- I like this plant and vase because they are affordable and layered texture. They are both light and airy and the color is soft and muted, a key element in the Scandinavian look. Lighting is also a personal way to express your style, I like to take into account both it’s on/off look. You should also take into account the light it casts, bulb type, and how it turns on. Not thinking about these small details can result in having to purchase/return multiple lamps. The shape of this lamp is very interesting and add punch.
Medium Impact- Case goods-Coffee table and side table
I feel that a coffee table is a personality piece- it’s on average lower cost so it can changed more often and coffee tables are made out solid surfaces so comfort isn’t a key factor, it’s more about look. This snapshot I wanted something minimalist and simple, it’s maybe a bit of a splurge but personality pieces are the ones worth it. An accent chair can also add a medium impact. But since it tends to be of occasional use I like to keep it to a lower price point. An item you can have a little bit of fun with, or use it to layer in another texture.
Large Impact-Upholstery- Couch. This is usually the largest investment in a room it is also the thing that needs to be of the highest quality. Most people live their lives on their couches, especially with the pandemic. If you’re shopping online it helps to pick a company that has a great return policy, so read through it and feel confident if you change your mind you can send it back. I also like keeping this large square footage item to a neutral color if you are going for a Scandinavian look.
I particularly like the warmth of mixing creams beiges and black.Still adds a statement without sacrificing personality. This look is always relevant and easy to maintain as it ops for storage to be hidden and allows for no clutter.Although this is a minimalist look it is still comfy and inviting.Perfect for families as well as single people. This exercise is a fun way to connect the dots if you were feeling my take on Scandinavian.
